This self-paced course gives you the knowledge you need to install and configure the iPlanetTM Messaging Server 5.2 (iPlanet MS 5.2). Some of the topics covered are the Messaging Server architecture, how it integrates with SunTM Open Net Environment (Sun ONE), and what's new in version 5.2. This course should take between 3 to 4 hours.

Prerequisites

The material in this course is technical in nature. You should have a basic familiarity with iPlanet's server infrastructure products and the technologies that enable them. Moreover, to be able to install and configure the Messaging Server, you need to have some familiarity with UNIX.

Student Goals

What are your goals as a student? Because of the way this course is designed, you may not need to view every page. If you are not familiar with the messaging technology or with the Messaging Server then you should start from the beginning and view the Overview module. Otherwise, please use the top left navigation scheme to go directly to the section that interests you. The learning goals of this course are:

  • To learn background information about messaging services and technology
  • To learn the origins of iPlanet Messaging Server 5.2 and its features
  • To install iPlanet Messaging Server 5.2 and learn about the process in detail.
  • To configure the Messaging Server to use the new Message Transfer Agent (MTA) direct Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) lookup feature.

Navigation

There are two forms of navigation:

  1. To jump to different topics use the pop-up menu system found at the top left corner.
  2. To navigate linearly use the arrows found at the bottom left corner.

Tip: If the navigation menu gets stuck (i.e. reveals a submenu and does not go away), then rollover a submenu and move your mouse away. This closes the pop-up menu system. For example:
